Performing
Some people prefer to learn music and enjoy it in the privacy of their own living rooms when no one else is around. And that is perfectly ok!!!
For those who want to gain skills as a performer – and I will say, it is very gratifying to be able to perform songs for and with others – Songinflight Studio offers 2+ fun opportunities each year you to build confidence while you perform. We host at least one virtual recital each Winter - either via video submissions, or live on zoom. Then, in the Spring, you're invited to participate in an in-person recital at a special venue where you can feel safe and happy performing for family and other students. Past venues have included:
Here are links from a few students' performances, including Fiona's sassy rendition of "Congratulations" from the Hamilton mixtape (Dazzle Jazz Club), Victoria's 12-bar blues improvisation (Dazzle Jazz Club), Bailey's Piano Man (Dazzle Jazz Club), Natalie's Song of Kilimanjaro (Cake Crumbs Cafe), Ben's original song called "Meat" (also at Cake Crumbs), a little minuet and storm (at Wash Park Center for Music & Arts), and a silly improvised moment with a trio of boys during songwriting workshops at the studio. If you want more, check out this 6 year-old singing and playing "True Colors" at her first recital, or a fifth grader singing "Ten Feet Tall", also at her first recital. I have also personally enjoyed performing over the years – see pics from my some of my performances here. And if you'd like to hear a few of my originals or cover tunes, you can check my songs out on Soundcloud (Leslie Dawe), or youtube (Songinflight Studio). Enjoy! |
