I am a musician at heart. Music is who I am, how I express myself, and what I love to share with others through teaching and performing. It is also my oasis of peace in a sometimes-too-busy world. Specifically, I’m a classically-trained pianist, singer, cellist, guitarist, and songwriter with a lifetime of creative experiences. I have been a joyful music teacher for 23 years, including 13 years in the classroom, and 10 years as a private piano teacher. |
I am a Colorado state certified music educator with a Master's Degree in Education from University of Denver. In 2005, I received a Mile High Teacher Award from the Mayor's Office for Education and Children. I am also a long-time member of the Music Teacher's National Association.
In my ten years as the music educator at Park Hill School in Denver Public Schools, I directed and more than 50 musical performances where hundreds of students demonstrated their ability to create multi-layered rhythm ensembles, improvise blues solos, compose harmony pieces for xylophones, and accompany themselves on instruments while singing world folk songs. At Stanley British Primary School, I collaborated with hundreds of creative TK-5 students to perform multi-part rock, pop, and folk songs for audiences of 1,000, led the 345 choir, and served as Musical Director for "Newsies", "Finding Nemo," "Alice in Wonderland", and "Matilda", as well as devoting units each year to studying music theory and creating our own music.
As a singer-songwriter, I have composed many folk-rock ballads. In my "performing years," I played at the Boulder, Fox, Gothic, and Bluebird Theaters as well as places like Dazzle (jazz), Swallow Hill (folk), and “Inside the Orchestra” with the Junior Symphony League. I was lucky to collaborate with artists such as Rob Drabkin, Ron Miles, Melissa Axel, Megan Burtt, and David Rynhart.
As an undergraduate at Stanford University, I sang and played in the pit for shows like Evita and Cabaret, and music-directed Bye Bye Birdie. After college I wrote songs and was a multi-instrumentalist for two San Francisco Bay Area folk-rock bands.
All of this is to say, music is at the core of who I am and what I love.
Looking forward to sharing my love of music with you!
